South Wales is a great place to live and work. It consists roughly of the area from Chepstow in the east to Swansea and the Gower in the west. To the north the area is bounded by the Brecon Beacons, an area of outstanding beauty. To the south is the Bristol Channel with a Coastline that varies from gentle beaches to dramatic cliffs.
The main cities are Cardiff, Newport and Swansea (though Swansea is yet to attain 'official' city status!). The main towns are Barry, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil and Llanelli. The area consists of the famous South Wales Valleys in the northern part. The valleys run predominantly north-south and until recently were a centre of heavy industry including coal mining and steel production. In the southern part is the Vale of Glamorgan, a predominantly rural flat-lying area consisting of pasture and crops interspersed with cute villages. The Geography and History of the area is closely linked to the underlying Geology. The Vale and the Gower are popular Tourist Destinations though the best sand is to be found in the Gower Beaches. |
